Minor Modifications Workshop Details

Hunter Home Modifications senior Occupational Therapists offer workshops where their knowledge and experience is shared.

The current agenda for our workshops is as follows:

  • Where to start
  • Preparation for home visits
  • AS 1428.1 and BCA in relation to OT
  • Timber Studs and wall framing
  • Reasoning for AS and BCA practical with ramps and wheelchairs and finding studs
  • Scaled drawing
  • Minor modifications and equipment:
    • Process for HHMS
    • Referral information
    • Types of minor mods (pictures of taps, threshold ramps show and tell rails)
  • Major modification requirements:
    • Process for HHMS
    • Joint visit
    • What to include (e.g. measurements in mm, scale of drawing)
    • What to measure
    • Things to be wary of e.g. concrete slab

More practical (in groups):

  • Scaled drawing: Case study: grab rail next to toilet; grab rail in shower
  • Case study: access
  • Equipment required: measuring tapes, scaled rulers, graph paper, wheelchair (manual)
  • Morning tea and Lunch provided.

OT/Builder Joint Visit Information Session

Hunter Home Modifications senior occupational therapist and building supervisors will provide information on:

  • Hunter Home Modifications service
  • When an OT should engage a builder for a joint visit
  • The role of an occupational therapist on joint visits
  • The role of a builder on a joint visit
  • What happens after the visit
  • Tips and tricks to make your referrals better
  • Q&A
